Garden Wedding and Party

My garden has been a busy place this summer
with a wedding reception and a few days later,
a Mother Daughter Garden party.

Since the Mother Daughter party was just four days
after the wedding reception, I used a lot of the
same decor and ideas.

It all started with this ugly green hutch that was a leftover
from one of our condo project models.  I didn't pick it -
our partner's wife did, and it had been relegated to the basement
to hold plates and things.

The wedding reception was for my oldest daughter's niece,
and my daughter said we should paint it for the wedding
reception, and use it for our sign in station.

I decided to paint the interior of the two glass
cabinets a pale aqua.  I used Rustoleum's
chalk paint.

It was our first foray into chalk paint, and I decided to
add a little bling with the crystal knobs that I
ordered online.

Once we finished that, I asked her what she planned
on using for the candy station, so we had to paint
another piece.

This piece was in my dining room, also holding
plates and things.  It was a brown on brown.
I was looking for something with a lot of
detail and this one was perfect.  It went from
being the ugly duckling to the beautiful swan.

It got a little lavender bling in the crystal knobs!

After the transformations, I said these pieces
were going to take center place in my dining room.
No more basement for the ugly green hutch.

The hutch was placed on the side yard entrance
for guests to sign in.

Lavender was one of the bride's colors, and I
had driven into my daughter's driveway and saw
this great lavender bicycle.  I said I had to borrow
it for the wedding and they said the friend was
selling it.  I bought it that day and brought it
home.

The wedding was gorgeous and a much bigger
turn out than the bride's mom had guessed, but
the yard handled it well.

I had hung netting panels from IKEA in the gazebo
for the backdrop for the bride and groom.  She
had rose gold runners on the tables, so I purchased
a rose gold tablecloth and took a small seam
on one end so I could hang it too.

The wedding reception was a big success!

The bride has lots of big strapping cousins, so right
after the reception ended, I had them move the
hutch down to the gazebo.  The bride and groom had
stood here for the wedding.  Now I wanted the hutch
to be used for the Mother Daughter party as our buffet.

I was able to reuse lots of my flowers
from the wedding for the Mother Daughter
party, filling the drawers with plants and
little vases of flowers.

The cupboards were opened up to accomodate
all of the food.

We had heart shaped peanut butter and jelly
sandwiches for the little ones and chicken
croissant sandwiches and cucumber sandwiches
with a salad for the moms.

The girls had fun decorating cupcakes as flowers
using marshmallows and sugar sprinkles.

Of course I knew they would love the candy
station as much as the wedding guests, so
I repeated that where the wedding cake
had been stationed.

Both parties were made magical by my painted
garden furniture, but they are too nice to leave
outside.  Watch for my dining room remodel.
These two pieces will be featured!

I will be sharing these parties with

An Engagement Table

My youngest daughter is
ENGAGED!
She is the one that you met earlier on my blog
that graduated from Culinary Arts School, Amanda.

(Actually she has been for a while now, but I
just wasn't able to get around to creating a table.)

I wanted to create a table to celebrate her engagement
to a wonderful young man.

I think doing a wedding is one of the funnest,
most creative opportunities, especially when it is
a wonderful bonding time with mother and daughter.

Amanda is also the one that had the opportunity
to travel to Paris and Italy with us and take
some cooking classes there.

So we have decided to use a Paris theme for her
wedding reception.

I saw these fabulous Paris inspired plates
the other day at Home Goods/ TJ Maxx and I knew
that she would love them.

I had to search all over for them to get enough
for her to start her new home and I knew
that these plates were the ones that would be
used to create a tablescape to celebrate her engagement.

They couldn't be more beautiful.  I love the soft
flowers that add a touch of femininity and the scalloped
edges.

I placed the stack on one of my favorite wooden
chargers.  Everything is cream but it looks more
white in the pictures.

Of course for the celebration we had to
break out the good silver plate.

and the silverplate goblets.

I had purchased these crystal napkin rings
some time ago and hadn't used them yet.
They look just like an engagement ring.

The pearl edged napkins are perfect for the elegance
of the table.

For a mother and daughter, planning a wedding, finding
the right wedding dress, picking the colors and all
of the details is like a fairy tale.

And truly, they become king and queen of their own
little kingdom as they set up a home and begin
their new life together.

A touch of pale pink blossoms is the
finishing touch for our table.

This gorgeous pinch pleated tablecloth is
stunning and is one of my internet finds

If you want to see all of the fun we have been
having on Pinterest, check out my board
for weddings - Your Special Day.
I had started the board long before she
was engaged, because wedding ideas are like
the ultimate party ideas.

You might have noticed my new blog design!
Linda at Life and Linda
designed it for me.  I just love it.  She has a business
doing this and is so creative.  Send her a message
if you are interested in having a header design or
a whole blog makeover like mine.
Let me just point out a few things I love -
I can put horizontal pictures on without
them being cut off, I don't have to edit each picture
to get a border on it, I now have a search, she created
a button for me,  I love the crown and
the little purple crown that appears up on the tab,
and of course I love that it features my kitchen and
looks like chocolate ganache decorating the  top of the
page.  I haven't had enough time to learn everything
or to organize everything yet in the subcategories,
but I definitely love my new design.  Thanks Linda!!!

I have had so many inquiries about the tablecloth
it was only $24 for one 120inch round!

I will be posting this with

High Heels and Bling Bling - Is It In The Genes?

Have you read any Fancy Nancy books

written by Jane O'Conner and illustrated by
Robin Preiss Glasser?

Nancy adores all things fancy and loves dressing in boas and
sparkles and feathers.  She loves to use fancy words in her
world.  Unlike Nancy, her family is very ordinary.
She tries to teach them to be fancy.

If you have any Fancy Nancys in your world, they would
love these fabulous books, young or old.

I have decided that I am a Fancy Nancy.
I don't think I was born this way.
I remember being more of a tom-boy,
but once I discovered my inner Fancy Nancy I
embraced her totally.

I have sweet little Fancy Nancy granddaughters.

I am glad that they are!

One Fancy Nancy granddaughter decided she wanted to
"open a shoe store".
She brought down some of Grandma Jackie's high heels
and sandals and set them up on the piano.
They were "for sale".
Fortunately none of the guests were my same size.

Our little entrepreneur is 5 years old.
She came for a sleep over for 4 days while
her mother went to Girl's Camp for Church.
She announced, "I want a complete makeover."

It started with getting her ears pierced (with mom's permission)
but then she wanted her hair cut (had to call dad for
permission on that one.)

Then she announced, "Well, I need a new outfit too."

Then it was, "Well, what about shoes?"

This little one is so delicate and cute.
She already wears bling bling.
She doesn't ask for much.

I think this one may be the ultimate Fancy Nancy.  A sweet little
Minnie Mouse voice comes with this darling.  I can't help
but hear her voice and have my heart melted.  She
can have whatever she wants.

This is our latest Fancy Nancy.  Hope she loves
all the pretty things grandma and mama put her in.

Is it in the genes?

I don't know, but my mother loved high heels,
I love high heels,
my daughters and daughter-in -laws
do too and a whole new generation
loves to get mine down off the
shelf and clatter around in the house in them.

It must be in the genes!

Pink, purple, red, these are all Fancy Nancy colors.

Fancy Nancy belongs to
Pink Saturday.

She would be here every week!
