Mother's Day Lilacs

I just love Mother's Day.  I love all of the beauty of the
world and gardens at this time of year.  I love that lilacs
are out in full bloom at Mother's Day here.

Which came first, my love of my parents' lilacs or
my love of purple?

As I was setting this table, the smell of the lilacs
brought back the smell of spring at home.  I used
to bring bunches into my bedroom when I was
in high school.

Although I was tempted to set this table outside,
as it would have been our first pretty weather,
I decided it was best in my formal dining room
with the purple banquets and chairs from Z Gallerie.

I started with white and silver polka dot
placemats.  Then I stacked ruffled purple plates
with ruffled white dessert plates.

These gorgeous ruffled dessert plates I found at
Tuesday Morning a few years ago.  They remind me of
my French heritage on my mother's side.

The sterling came from my father's side.

This cut glass relish bowl is also from my father's side.

My life was made wonderful my both of my parents.
I didn't get my love of bling from my mom, but from
my dad.  He loved beautiful home items and often
bought them for her.

My life has also been made wonderful by being
a mother and a grandmother.  Of all of my blessings,
there is nothing that compares to them.

May Mother's Day bring you joy and sweet
memories of your mother or mother figures
in your life.

Happy Anniversary in May Table

Lilacs are such a sentimental flower for me.  Whenever they
are in bloom in the month of May, I am reminded of our
wedding reception 33 years ago in May.
Of course I loved purple
even back then and my parents had a 50 foot hedge of
different varieties of lilacs from white to deep dark purples.
We filled the church with lilacs cut from those bushes.

As a girl I would cut myself a bouquet and bring it into my
room to smell the wondrous fragrance of our lilacs.

They have such a short growing season and I just had to
include a table with the lilacs and other flowers from
the garden.  Today is a romantic table for two outside
for dessert to enjoy the beautiful flowers and fragrances
of Spring.

Bleeding hearts are another flower that reminds me of growing up.
Do you find that you want to have the flowers that your mother
had in her garden?  I do.

These little gems have always fascinated me.  What an intricate
and wonderful blossom.  I had to tuck some in with the dessert fork.

I layered these beautiful square purple blossom plates with
a white square plate for my romantic table for two
in honor of our anniversary.

These wonderful light purple bubble glasses are perfect
for our romantic table.

Just these few lilac blossoms fill the air with their heady aroma.

This old bistro set was looking a little tired so a few years
ago I sprayed it purple and recovered the chairs with
outdoor fabric in a black and cream damask that I
purchased from Ballard.

It is so nice to be able to have the weather warm enough to
sit outside and begin to enjoy the garden.

I am so grateful for my marriage and that we have had
so many years together.  I love that I
got married at such a pretty time of year and that
the blossoms of the season remind me of that.

Thanks for visiting Purple Chocolat Home today.
I enjoy each and every comment.

Pretty In Purple - My Love For Lilacs Table

Purple has been my favorite color since I was little
and when we got married, the reception at the
church was filled with purple lilacs

Last week we celebrated
32 years
of marriage so
a post filled with lilacs is a perfect way to celebrate
our wedding anniversary.

When I was growing up my parents property had
a huge row of lilacs in different shades.  I
would cut a huge bouquet of lilacs and bring
them into my bedroom.  The heady smell of
the lilacs would fill my bedroom.

Cutting this large bouquet reminded me of those times.

I found these beautiful plates at Home Goods and
just had to grab them.  I love the dark purple flowers
mixed with the delicate sketched flowers.

Here's a closeup of these rich beautiful flowers.
It is almost a shame to layer these under a cream
colored textured plate and a deep purple leaf shaped
plate.

Everything is set on top of a damask purple
table cloth that was custom made.

A black textured and scalloped charger anchors
the setting and is set off with black flatware.
I love the details on this flatware from Horchow.

The beautiful deep purple flared vase was
a gift from a friend years ago.
This shot shows all of the pretty textures involved.

Purple beaded napkin holders top a dark purple
cotton napkin.

A wooden Fresh Flowers sign adds more interest
to the table.

I had to add my last purple tulip and
a few violets to the table.

I love all of the different spring purples
on this table.

This overhead shot shows the leaf shape
of the deep amethyst plate on top.

These are my favorite goblets, their deep
amethyst color with the twisted stems are
incredible.

I paired the amethyst goblets with a black
goblet for added drama.

The black goblets go so nicely with the
chargers and flatware.

If you still have lilacs blooming,
gather a large bouquet and bring
them in.

They will fill the house with their
heady aroma.
