Five Layer Cookie Bars

I was plotting something rich and gooey and
delicious and decided to put everything together
that I love...Chocolate Chip Cookies, Brownies,
Oreos, and more chocolate.

This is a simple cookie that makes enough for a
crowd as you bake it in a bun pan.

Start with two packages of prepared chocolate
chip cookie dough (or make your own batch).
I add about 2 T. flour for each package to make
the chocolate chip cookies a little firmer.

Spread them in bun pan that has been sprayed
with Pam.  Then break up half a package of
Oreos and sprinkle on top.

Mix a package of brownies ( the 9x13 size package)
with 1 egg and 1/2 C. butter.  Pinch off pieces and
place on top.  It won't cover all of the cookie dough.

Pour on a can of sweetened condensed milk.

Sprinkle on 1 1/2 C. chocolate chunks or chocolate chips.
I love Trader Joe's chocolate chunks.

Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes.  Let cool completely
before cutting.

Yum!  Layer after layer of cookie goodness.  Give these
a try for one of your summer picnics.

Oreo Chocolate Silk Poke Cake

Chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate.

Chocolate is usually my preferred dessert,
and this one I have made several times,
always with people wanting to take a slice home.

What makes this cake so amazing is the
home made  hot fudge sauce that is poured
into the cake.  You could substitute a jar of
hot fudge sauce, but that really doesn't taste
anything like fudge sauce.  This is so easy
and quick and you probably have everything
in your pantry.

Oreo  Chocolate Silk Poke Cake

Start by making a 9x13 inch cake.  I love Betty Crocker's
Triple Chocolate Cake mix.  Mix and bake according to
directions.  Remove from oven and let cool for 10-15
minutes.  Meanwhile make the hot fudge sauce.

Quick and Easy Hot Fudge Sauce

1 C. semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 C. real butter
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1/4 C. milk

Place the chocolate chips, butter and sweetened
condensed milk in a microwave safe bowl.  Heat
for 1 minute, then stir.  Heat for 30 seconds and
stir again.  If needed, heat for a few more seconds.
Stir until all of the chips are melted and it is smooth.
Stir in the milk to thin it down.

See, so simple, and it keeps well in the fridge,
but not this time - you are going to use all of
this yumminess in the cake.

Now poke holes in the cake with the end of a
wooden spoon or dowel.  Pour the fudge onto
the cake, filling up the holes. Reserve a couple
of tablespoons of the sauce for a garnish.

 Pop it in fridge to
cool while you are making the topping.

Oreo Chocolate Silk Topping

1 small pkg. instant chocolate pudding mix
1 1/3 C. milk
12 oz Cool Whip, thawed
15 Oreos, crushed

Mix the pudding and milk together.  It will be thick.
Let it set up for a couple of minute, then fold
the Cool Whip in until blended.  Finally fold in
the Oreo crumbs.

Spread the Chocolate Silk onto the cooled cake,
and top with additional crushed Oreos and a pipe
little reserved Hot Fudge placed in a pastry bag
or plastic bag.

Let cool in fridge for several hours
or overnight.  It is so moist and wonderful,
you will want to make it again and again.

We made this for the family, but it is fancy
enough for company too!

Oreo Pan Sugar Cookies

Add Oreos to a vanilla shake, and all of a sudden
you have an over the top shake. Add Oreos to
frosting, and you will want to eat it by the spoonful!
Now add Oreos to sugar cookies and top it with Oreo
frosting, and people will be begging for more!

I

I made some Oreo frosting for a chocolate cake
for my grandson's birthday, and took a swipe
from the whisk and it was instant love! I
didn't stop there with my usual one taste, I
went ahead and cleaned off the whisk and went
on to clean out the bowl.  This is truly addictive.

I knew I had to create some other vehicle for
the Oreo frosting so I decided to make my go
to pan sugar cookies for a crowd and top it with the
Oreo frosting.  I made these for our Young Single
Adult Ward and they disappeared off the platter,
even though it makes over 50 cookies.

I love anything that I can make it my big bun pan
as we often have 50-70 kids for the dinners.

Afterwards, my niece asked me to make her some
for a group that was coming to her house.  We ended
up just making a batch of the frosting and she took
graham crackers to dip in the frosting.  She said she
liked that even better, so if you just want the yumminess
of the frosting and don't want to wait for cookies
to bake, have it with grahams.  Remember when we used
to have that for a treat as kids?  I even remember having
that as a treat in Kindergarten and that was
many many moons ago!

Oreo Frosting

1 C. butter, softened
5 C. powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla, preferably clear
3-5 T. water or milk
6 Oreos, crushed

Place softened butter, powdered sugar, vanilla
and 3 T. water in mixing bowl with whisk
attachment.  Begin to whip it.  Add water
1 T. at a time to get a soft frosting consistency.
Beat for 5-7 minutes, scraping sides.
Whip in crushed Oreos.  Crush a few
extra Oreos for garnish.

Oreo Pan Sugar Cookies

1 C. butter, softened
2 C. sugar
4 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla, preferably clear
1/2 tsp coconut flavoring
5 C. flour
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp soda
8 Oreos, crushed

Heat oven to 375.

Cream the butter and sugar in a large
mixing bowl.  Add the eggs one at a time
until incorporated. Mix in the flavorings. Scrape sides of bowl.

In a medium bowl mix the flour, salt and soda.
When the sugar mixture is light and fluffy, mix in the flour
mixture and combine well.  Then stir in the crushed Oreos.

Spray a 13x18 inch pan with Pam and press the
dough into the pan and smooth out.

Bake for about 13 minutes.  You can easily overbake
these, and they are better underbaked than overbaked.
Take out of the oven when the top looks dry.  Cool
completely and frost with Oreo Frosting. Garnish
with additional crushed Oreos.

If you are one of those who loves to scrape out
the frosting of Oreos and eat it,
this will give you that Oreo fix!!

Make these for your next large gathering, or just
a bowl of the frosting for dipping!

Pirate Treasure - Edible Oreo Coins

A must for any Pirate Party is to have some
pirate treasure on board, gold and silver me mateys!!

How about some edible pirate gold for your
next Halloween or Pirate Party?

Beaulah and I did some treasure hunting and
came up with a bounty of gold and silver.

These are perfect for any pirate party, and the little ones
can even help make them.

Just spray Double Stuff Oreos with
Wilton's Silver or Gold Color Mist,
or Duff's Silver Cake Graffiti.

I love the Double Stuff - reminds me of doubloons!

Beaulah and I tried both, and they both worked
great.  Let them dry and pop some Pirate Gold or Silver
into your mouth.  We can't wait to try these out for
a Pirate Party.

I will be bringing my booty to
Susan's party

Caramel Oreo Brownies

Caramel and Oreos and Chocolate,
OH MY!

Let's just stuff every yummy ingredient
we can think of into the middle of
double chocolatey brownies and let
the yumminess begin.

My sister in law Michele had made
these and though I didn't get one of
hers, I took it on my sister Jean's word
that I had to try these.

Yup!  They were right.

These are amazing and not
as rich as I thought (meaning, I
could eat more than one - no problem!)

The batter made from a cake mix is
stuffed with chocolate chips and after
a little baking is topped with Oreos and
caramel and then more batter.
What more needs to be said???

Caramel Oreo Brownies
(Very slight variation from Easy Baked)

1 pkg. Chocolate Cake Mix
(I like Betty Crocker's Triple Chocolate)
1/3 C. oil
2 eggs
1 12 oz. pkg. milk chocolate chips
1 12 oz. pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips

24 Double Stuffed Oreos

32 unwrapped Kraft Caramels
1/2 C. butter
1 14 oz. can Sweetened Condensed Milk

Line a 9x13 inch pan with foil (if
you don't do this, you will have a hard
time with the caramel sticking to the sides).
Spray the bottom with oil.

Heat oven to 350.

In a large mixer bowl mix the cake mix,
oil and 2 eggs until blended.  Stir in the
chocolate chips.

Place half of the batter into the bottom
of the prepared pan.  It won't completely cover
the bottom of the pan but it will fill in as it
bakes.  Bake this for 10 minutes.

Meanwhile place the caramels, butter
and the sweetened condensed milk (minus
1 T.) in a saucepan and melt the caramels.
Stir constantly until melted and smooth.

Remove the pan from the oven and place
24 Oreos on the top of the baked cookies.
Now pour the caramel over the cookies.
Finish by topping the pan with the remaining
batter.  You need to take small amounts
and flatten them out in your hands to try
and cover as much of the top as you can.
Spray your hands with oil as needed.
Bake for 25 minutes.

Let cool in the pan.  When cool, lift the foil out
of the pan and peel it away from the edges,
then cut into squares.  I cut mine into 24
pieces.  These really cut best if you let them
cool overnight, but sometimes you just can't
wait that long.
Cut into 24 squares.

We have already made these twice
and I have people asking for more!
They were fabulous!!

Oreo Cake

We are busy little elves here at
Purple Chocolat Home
but things are getting wrapped up.
I hope you are doing well with all of your
Christmas plans, parties and preparations too.

The month of December is always so filled with
parties and I am always looking for something new
to bring or to serve.

I needed a cake for a Relief Society Christmas Dinner
(our lady's church group)
and I was on Pinterest the night before.

I saw this cake.
This was the comment under the picture
"Warning if you make this cake once, you will
be asked to make it again.  Possibly the most loved
cake I have ever made."

Sounded good to me.  The pin actually took you

It is simply two layers of your favorite chocolate cake
with an Oreo Cookie cream filling and finished with
a chocolate glaze.  Yum.

I am usually disappointed with the finished result when a
photo from a commercial site doesn't have the depth of
filling they show.  Well, in this case, my filling looks
twice as high.  That should draw you in.

It really was yummy and went quickly at the party.

Chocolate-Covered Oreo Cookie Cake
(The great thing was that I had everything in the pantry and fridge.)

1 pkg chocolate cake mix -
I used Betty Crocker's Triple Chocolate Fudge
or your favorite chocolate cake recipe
2/3 C. semi sweet chocolate chips
1/4 C. butter
8 oz. cream cheese, softened
1/2 C. granulated sugar
2 C. Cool Whip, thawed
12 Oreos, crushed

Make cake mix according to package direction.  I baked
mine in 2 - 8 inch round pans.  Let cool completely.

Meanwhile let cream cheese soften.  Beat the
cream cheese and sugar together until fluffy.  Fold
in the Cool Whip.  Then fold in the crushed Oreos.

Place bottom layer of cake on cake stand.  Spread the
filling onto cake.  Keep it from spreading over the sides.
The filling is really thick and easy to work with.  Smooth
out the filling.  Top with second layer of cake and press
down lightly.  Make sure cake is level.

Melt the chocolate and butter together in a bowl at
30 second intervals, stirring in between each interval
even if it doesn't look like it needs to be stirred.  Spoon
the chocolate onto cake.  Avoid letting it drip down the
sides of the cake.

Keep cake refrigerated.  Let it sit out for 20 minutes
before slicing for the chocolate glaze to soften a little.

(Yes, this is a new feature! I have had requests
for this feature and haven't followed up, but now I followed
Yvonne's instructions (Stone Gable)on how to make a
printable recipe and guess what - it worked.  Thanks
Yvonne!!  She had great step by step instructions that were
easy to follow.)

Since hubby wasn't invited to the Relief Society dinner
he has been asking for one ever since and he didn't even
get to lick the spoon, he just thought it looked incredible.

We will be making this one again really soon.

I will be taking this to these parties:

Trader Joe's Opening - Oops The Shelves Are EMPTY! And Make Your Own Chocolate Covered Joe Joe's

Living close to Nevada and California we have
loved and coveted Trader Joe's for years and years
and when we were traveling there we were sure to bring
a suitcase to bring home goodies.

So you can imagine how excited we were when they
finally announced that they were opening one in
Salt Lake City.  About the same time my sister Jean
in Texas said they were finally getting one too.

I knew what I wanted this time of year
Dark Chocolate Covered Peppermint Joe Joe's!

My friend and I were planning on going up the opening
day, but I had too much to do with my granddaughter's
baptism and another granddaughter's third birthday so
I skipped out.

Somebody blew it big time!  My other friends
Wally and his daughters went up
the day after it opened and this is what they found:

I really thought he was joking -

These pictures are real!

It was on the news.
The cupboards are bare!
Have you ever seen anything
like this?

It really was quite unbelievable!

We went to Salt Lake (a 45 minute drive)
with some trepidation on Monday morning (two days later)
and fortunately they
had restocked the shelves.  The lines were long and crazy
and when we asked about the
Dark Chocolate Covered Peppermint
Joe Joe's
and they said they were
gone for the season!!!!

What?!!!
A whole year?!!

They did have their Candy Cane Joe Joe's.
These are the regular chocolate sandwich cookies
not dipped in chocolate (as pictured above).

Of course we grabbed a few boxes
of those (who knew
when you would see them again either!)
They said as soon as they came out they were gone
off the shelves.

Wally had given us a box of the
chocolate covered ones and honestly the plain cookies
 just don't compare.

An enterprising cook like me isn't going to let that stop me
from having this delicious holiday treat.

We can make our own!

Mine are on the left, theirs are on the right.
(I thought my candy canes had a little more color.)

Make Your Own Chocolate Covered Joe Joe's

1 box Candy Cane Joe Joe's
or any sandwich cookie you like
such as mint Oreos or regular Oreos etc.
3 C. dark chocolate coating
or any flavor you like
(or you can use 3 C. semi-sweet chocolate chips plus 2 tsp. oil
which is a little trickier because you have to cool
it enough and keep stirring it so it won't develop streaks.)
3 drops peppermint oil
crushed candy canes

Melt the chocolate coating in a microwave safe bowl
for one minute, then stir and melt an additional 30 seconds
and stir.  Melt an 15 seconds if necessary. (Do the same for
chocolate chips, adding the oil.)

I had bought that handy dipping tool last year
for things like this that you can't hold onto or
you don't want to flip over.  This is the first time I used it.
It worked great for dipping cookies.

I used a spoon to cover the cookie and even lifted the
cookie onto the dipping fork with the spoon.

Then I tapped the cookie quite a few times to shake off
a lot of the chocolate, then scraped the fork on the side of the
bowl.  Sprinkle with crushed candy cane right away.
I held the cookie on the fork over a small plate and sprinkled
the candy cane onto the cookie.  That way any excess
candy stays on the plate.

The cookie will slide right off the fork.  (I have read that you can use
a regular fork, but I have never tried it.) Let it slide onto
parchment paper and let cool until the chocolate is solid.
If you need to you can push it off with a knife.  If the chocolate
gets too hard pop it in the microwave for about 7-10 seconds.  Stir
again.
(I made some with real chocolate and some with dark chocolate
coating and for easiness, the coating worked great and tasted
good too.)

This made about 30 chocolate covered cookies.

When these are gone, I can dip another batch!

I also dipped some as pops.  They were really easy as the
candy sticks went right into the soft candy cane filling.  This makes
a really pretty presentation.

I am definitely going to have more fun with this
dipping Oreos in Spring colors or white chocolate
or maybe some regular Joe Joe's.  Imagine
the possibilities.

After munching on one last night I turned over the box.

Since the writing is small, let me tell you what it says....
And like all holiday traditions, they disappear as fast as they appear
and won't return until next year!
(They must have meant disappear off the shelves!!!)
In Trader Joe's defense, they said they had never seen
anything like this store opening!!!!
