Summer Nights - The Perseid Meteor Shower

Summer nights spent under the sky
are one of my favorite things.

The Perseid Meteor shower is a yearly event that takes
place from the end of July to mid August.

Friday was the peak of the shower,
but you can still see a lot of the shower
this next week.

We are always at Lake Powell at this time of year.

We go to the top deck on the houseboat and lie down
and watch for shooting stars.

My husband has put together a collection of
music that he calls "Star Gazing" music.
It includes songs from

Kurt Bestor's Evening Angels

Ray Lynch's Celestial Soda Pop
various Kenny G songs.

Listening to this music, you feel transported.

In order to see the meteor shower
you must get away from city lights.

We were at Lake Powell this past week and
went up every night to watch the stars.

Tuesday night we saw the most spectacular one.

It left a trail bigger than the one in the opening picture
The trail stayed in the sky for a long time.

Thursday night we saw 8 in less than 10 minutes!

Of course we weren't good enough photographers
to catch one, but these photos were taken at
Lake Powell of the night sky.

Notice you can see the full outline of the moon in this
one.  These were taken by one of the Young Men
we had on this trip by the name of Josh.

Get out and look at the stars this summer
before the summer is gone.

I will be sharing this on
The Tablescapers

Oh, so few left, sigh!

Chocolat - French for Chocolate. I adored chocolate from a young age when I had to sneak in the cupboard to find where my mother had hidden the Nestle's Chocolate Chips. Having read about the famous chocolat shoppes in Paris, when I finally got there I was determined to try a chocolate from every Paris shoppe. I invite you to share my adventures in creating, in travel, and in life.

  1. Hi Jacqueline, what a wonderful experience to be able to lay on the top of that boat and watch a meteor shower. Lake Powell looks so beautiful - I've never been there but friends of mine have. We had a very intense meteor shower here one fall about 9 years ago - the shooting stars were so bright that they were lighting up our driveway! I've never seen anything like it before or since - it was truly miraculous. I took a peek at your last post about Fancy Nancys - so so cute - and those little girls are just adorable. The shoe sale was a hoot - just so funny! And by the way, you have some very cool shoes! Thanks for stopping by my wacky deer in the closet post! Ciao, bella!

  2. Holy moly, what a spot to be in !The lake looks amazing, but to stay on the house boat must be really wonderful. Our house in NH gives us such starry nights to admire and gaze at. Love it!

  3. What a wonderful experience this must be. Your photos have captured the shower for those of us not able to see the real thing. I can imagine how peaceful it must be. Enjoy your remaining time on the lake. I hope you are having a great day. Blessings...Mary

  4. Thanks for stopping by my blog Jacqueline with the great comment.... It's fixed over at Summer Sundays, I was able to link up now... you might be able to as well! Anyway I thin that meteor shower is just absolutely amazing! Again, thanks for stopping by! Have a great day!

  5. Oooohhhh, I'd love to be on a houseboat on a lake to watch these! We live out in the country, so it's not a problem seeing them unless it's cloudy, but I can just imagine being out on the roof of a houseboat! Lovely!

  6. Hi Jacqueline,
I love this post. My husband and I do the same thing. We spend our weekends in the wine country where the sky is full of stars. We love nothing more than to lie on our backs in our steamer chairs and watch for shooting stars. Last night was spectacular! Being on a houseboat, especially on Lake Powell must be amazing!

  7. Amazing! what awesome things God has arranged for us to marvel at!

Thanks for stopping back and following! I look forward to getting to know you ... and your beautiful posts!
I see even our vocation and avocations are the same!
Have a beautiful Sunday and truly enjoy the rest of the Summer Sundays!
    ;-D Kathleen

  8. What a great post! I can only imagine being at Lake Powell and gazing at those glorious stars!!!

  9. What a perfect way to watch the Perseids! We haven't had any luck in the past few years due to cloud cover, but it's an annual August event we look forward to :-)

  10. Hi Jacqueline,
Sounds like a beautiful way to spend the summer... hanging out at a lake on a houseboat watching the stars and listening to relaxing music. Your houseboat is lovely, btw!
Thanks so much for visiting and leaving such a nice comment. I sure do appreciate it!
    Have a nice evening,
    ~ Jo :)

  11. lovely pics!

    an award for you:

  12. Beautiful photos. Love the meteor shower. I would not get that one. I live in the suburb of the city. You really need to be in the open. Have a great day. Nancy

  13. There is nothing more wonderful than a summer night. Enjoy your time at Lake Powell and I hope you see many shooting stars.

  14. Looks so beautiful. How special to have this experience and share with us. We all should turn off our t.v.'s and experience the beautiful night sky.
