Black Magic Bars

A little black magic takes these fabulous
bars just a little over the top.

Beaulah wants everyone to know that there is
 nothing dark about
this magic except the dark chocolate cookie crust.  Sundance,
Robert Redford's resort here makes these special chocolate
crusted Magic Bars and sells them in their deli.  We always pick
one up and share it because they package theirs in a huge bar.
Beaulah and I decided to give them a try.  We decided to make
ours extra deep rather than extra  large and they do
taste magical.

Black Magic Bars

20 regular Oreos, crushed finely
1/4 C. melted butter
1 - 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk
2 C. semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 C. white chocolate chips
1/2 C. milk chocolate chips
1/2 C. chopped pecans
2 C. sweetened coconut

Preheat oven to 325.

Mix the crushed Oreos and melted butter and press into an 8x11
inch baking dish that you have sprayed with baking Pam.

In a bowl place all of the chips, nuts and coconut.  Toss them
together and then pour the sweetened condensed milk over
the chips and coconut.  Mix it all together until the milk coats
the ingredients.  Press the coconut mixture over the crust.

Bake for 25 minutes until the edges begin to just turn golden.

These are soft and thick and will need to be refrigerated so that
the chips are firm before cutting.

Drizzle with a little melted chocolate if desired.

These vary from the traditional recipe in that we added more
chips and more coconut and that makes for a
magical combination.

That Beaulah always knows how to make something richer
and the chocolate crust is a perfect touch.

And just like a puff of smoke, they disappeared quickly!

Chocolat - French for Chocolate. I adored chocolate from a young age when I had to sneak in the cupboard to find where my mother had hidden the Nestle's Chocolate Chips. Having read about the famous chocolat shoppes in Paris, when I finally got there I was determined to try a chocolate from every Paris shoppe. I invite you to share my adventures in creating, in travel, and in life.

  3. I agree with Cass, Yummy 7 layer bars with oreo crust! Instead of mixing everything together, we always layered it with sweetened condensed milk as a topping then baked. Will have to give these a try!

  15. Good Morning Jacqueline, You have a fabulous name, my middle name is Jacqueline. These Black Magic Bars look delicious, and I must confess if I ate one, I think I would want to eat another. We have chocolates named Black Magic here in England and I fully expected the bars to be made of those chocolates. This is a recipe I am going to try as I think it will be a hit in my house. Enjoy your day, Best Wishes Daphne
