Spiders In A Jar Cookies

Everyone knows witches love to eat spiders,
so we have caught some in jars, ready to serve
them up to all of our witchy friends!

Beaulah and I were watching one of our
favorite Halloween movies the other night -
Hocus Pocus
and Sarah Jessica Parker is outside gobbling
spiders!  Yum!!  (She is just so funny in this crazy
Halloween movie.)

That got us craving some of the little creepy crawlies,
but we like  the sugary kind, that can't move.
(Araneae dulce)

A couple of weeks ago I told you that my father paid us
10 cents each for spiders
that we found in the basement - his way of ridding the
house of those pesky little critters.

We would put them in mason jars to bring them to him -
showing our captured spiders.  I can still picture them.
Well, that part of my personal history was the true
inspiration for the Spiders in a Jar Cookies.

They do seem to attract other spiders - probably
trying to help them escape!

Wonder how much Dad would have paid for these
spiders?

Beaulah and I would probably give him some
for free!!

You've never had such tasty spiders before!

Glad you stopped by to see what
fun is happening in our
Halloween Purple Chocolat Home.

Chocolat - French for Chocolate. I adored chocolate from a young age when I had to sneak in the cupboard to find where my mother had hidden the Nestle's Chocolate Chips. Having read about the famous chocolat shoppes in Paris, when I finally got there I was determined to try a chocolate from every Paris shoppe. I invite you to share my adventures in creating, in travel, and in life.

  1. Oh Jacqueline and Beaulah, these are soooo cute! I have that mason jar cookie cutter and have never thought of doing it. I love the cookies (would like to eat all of them), and I love all your cute backdrops for the cookies. Zoulah will fly down on her broom to get some (doubt she will share with me). I never did catch any spiders -- too scary. Daddy Long Legs gave me the creeps. Joni

  4. Cute! It looks like the spiders have run amuck [amuck, amuck, AMUCK ;) ]
I am deathly afraid of spiders, I'm afraid I would've gone broke, however; children are so much more fearless, your dad was clever...I'll bet you have no fear of those leggy buggers in adulthood!

  7. I love that your recipe is based on a true life experience :) Earning money catching spiders probably made them less creepy to you too! Adorable idea for Halloween and you've had some great ones.
